Falling views, but possible developments

I keep monitoring the stats on Hypestat and have been seeing the daily views drop each day. I posted about this and got a nice response from Brian Tignor at Tsu. He says they are looking at emails to users and 'targetted content'. They have to do something to keep users engaged with the site. There are core of users who have stuck with it, but that's not enough to be viable. There's also the mass of 'likers' who just post pics and write 'nice' comments. I don't know what effect they have.

I monitor Alexander where Tsunami has fallen from 4G to 9.9k and the largest user population now include India and Pakistan. 

 

Tsu's revenue is based on views and click throughs adjusted for country of viewing.   Their algorithm doesn't state reward for likes and comments.  Instead multiple viewing of the same post may result in other ads being displayed or an increase in number of unique visitors per day.

 

If you monitor newly made accounts you will see the number of view bot nests reducing although they are still out there.  And recently I Made it onto a spammers block list - which makes me check all of their accounts harder for scams and copyright infringement. 

 

The real issue is about being able to make a significant enough amount of money to make a difference.   I will continue to plug away.

 

My biggest fear is that at TSU will sell out.   Even now their biggest users are using a different platform to converse and earn..   and in theory Tsu could have provided that functionality directly.

The Alexa ranking did improve recently, but has now levelled off. If views continue to fall then it will go up again. India has become the largest user of Tsu, but we know that views from there are not worth as much as those from the US or Europe. Tsu has to grow to survive and it seems the incentive of network earnings is just not enough.

You earn money from the value obtained by the people Viewing your content as well as the people viewing the content in your network.  

 

Tsu earn money from ads - views and clickthroughs.  The value of the view/clickthrough varies in different parts of the world - generally speaking US based views are worth more than European and African/Asian view worth less than European views.  Why? - it's partly about the amount of discretionary income that people are willing to spend on line and partly about the number of advertisers available (and what they are willing to pay) in the geographic centres.  Some geographic locations like India/Pakistan/northern Africa are known to have bot nests/pay people to click on ads/view pages...  so advertisers get little return (eg sales) from these areas.

 

If Tsu's ranking is in the top 5k sites in the US, more advertisers will be attracted in that country (and same goes for the other geographic advertisers) - but I'm not sure how strongly Tsu pursue advertisers directly vs how much they just let programmes like Google AdSense to drive advertising.

Yes, how I said, after every wave we can see the drop. Some solution could be more features on site, for example chat, more privacy, lower cashout... or even the advertisement in TV, newspapers or on the web. There are many ways.

I think they need features to attract people who don't create much content. If artists are to use Tsu then their fans need to have a reason to be there.

This is Tignor's reply from tsu. It means they were optimizing the core of tsu, for example the algorithm. In the very first months of tsu, their algorithm was rewarding content creators and those who share their content almost. It means there was a financial benefit for those who just share others people posts and don't produce/create something new. Now, the algorithm is working much better for those who create original content - the biggest part of economics goes to the creator and only a little percentage to the sharer.

 

They introduced completely new UI of the website and mobile app during the 2015 and they added few handy features like editing posts, groups and their whole admin control panel, condensed notifications + lot of new types of notifications, option to block users and fixed ton of bugs. I remember the progress because I joined tsu in early November 2014.

 

All above means "optimizing for the content creator". Content creators are obviously very important for any website - without original content, you can't have visitors to your site.

 

Tignor reveals the next step - "2016 is all about the content consumer". They can now focus on content consumers, eg. the average users who don't produce much content. Content creators now undersand the concept and they know it works so tsu can move to the consumers.

 

What I think will happen next - another major upgrade of UI (user interface) and more features like chat, albums, etc. will come. I don't know when it will arrive but they are working on it hard (I guess).

Oh yes, that s what I want here, I am creater and consumer, like every active user and more feater to consumers is good idea, they can use the feater and during their activity they still watching adds ;)

It's looking like the Tsu ranking on Alexa is going back up over 4000 soon. They are just not keeping enough people active. My network of almost 1300 has grown by about 3 in the last couple of weeks. That's not great and I know at least one of those has not posted anything since their first day.

 

Tsu need to add some features to keep people coming back. I don't mind if they add games (like Facebook) as long as I don't get extra stuff in my feed. Photo albums would be a genuinely useful feature that I know a lot of people want.

 

What do you hear people asking for?

I just posted about the need for 2-factor authentication on Tsu. Sebastian replied

 

" hi. good point. we have a big update coming where we will include this in either that or upcoming updates of this more major roll out. SMS verification coming too "

      I think this may be your last chance to get your posts and photos. You should still be able to log in to do this. I don't know what use anyone can make of the files provided, but I think this was the least they could do after cutting us off so suddenly.
       
      I wonder if this will be left available for a little longer or if they will just shut down the domain.
