TsuFanZine got a reaction from DreagusProd#1 in Copyright Tutorial - by TsuFanZine
There has been an on-again off-again campaign to get users to recognise content which is under copyright.

Most people assume that because it's been posted a number of times means that copyright doesn't apply.  This isn't true - you have no way of knowing who has permission before you.

The most pragmatic solution:  User http://www.google.com/advanced_image_searchto find relevant material - the last option is the one where you want to select   "Free to use, alter or modify, even commercially"

You still need to check through the permissions before you use it... These may be:

    1.  Public domain image, royalty free stock photo. - EG Free for any use and modification.

    2.  Creative Commons Attribution required (note the last line where you purchase an attribution free license) - And this is why you can't assume you can reuse without checking.

Back when T's had 200k+ unique daily visitors,  a third party Web site set up a function where you could pay via Tsu $.

That website was infected with male are last time I tried to access it and none of the big users cared enough to help me find the person who could sort it.  Which tells me that no one is using Tsu $ for anything other than donations.

Having been through the process of getting paid, Tsu are not consistent and ban accounts rather than pay out.

Tsu currently has about 63K unique visitors, the majority of which are in Asia so revenue is less than $500 per day for the entire platform.  And remember that unique visitors number is bumped up by all the people with more than 1 account, so real numbers are probably less than 25k per day.

If they haven't already used up their investor funding they will sooner rather than later.  Perhaps they plan to sell all the content people posted.

My heart goes out to all those still trying to make it work, there are other platforms where payout is easier.

WU claim to charge just £2.90 to send up to £500 to a bank account.  Tsu take 3%, but I'm not sure Tsu use WU.

I had mine via Paypal. They took around 4%. I didn't take cash from that as I used it for various other transactions, e.g. ebay. I've never used a Western Union transfer, so I don't know if that would get me a larger share. I think it is possible to use that in the UK.

PayPal is more comfortable imho - you will get your money to the PayPal account and then you can withdraw it to your bank account or buy something on the internet. However, I don't know what would be the total cost of getting your redemption to PayPal and then to bank account. Maybe Western Union could be cheaper and you will get the cash immediately on their branch.

You earn money from the value obtained by the people Viewing your content as well as the people viewing the content in your network.

Tsu earn money from ads - views and clickthroughs.  The value of the view/clickthrough varies in different parts of the world - generally speaking US based views are worth more than European and African/Asian view worth less than European views.  Why? - it's partly about the amount of discretionary income that people are willing to spend on line and partly about the number of advertisers available (and what they are willing to pay) in the geographic centres.  Some geographic locations like India/Pakistan/northern Africa are known to have bot nests/pay people to click on ads/view pages...  so advertisers get little return (eg sales) from these areas.

If Tsu's ranking is in the top 5k sites in the US, more advertisers will be attracted in that country (and same goes for the other geographic advertisers) - but I'm not sure how strongly Tsu pursue advertisers directly vs how much they just let programmes like Google AdSense to drive advertising.

The Alexa ranking did improve recently, but has now levelled off. If views continue to fall then it will go up again. India has become the largest user of Tsu, but we know that views from there are not worth as much as those from the US or Europe. Tsu has to grow to survive and it seems the incentive of network earnings is just not enough.

My earnings have dropped since then. My active children stopped posting and that had some affect. I'm seeing a drop in my views as well now. So I'm making a lot less now. I hope it will go up again soon.

In my time on Tsu I've not had many days where I made more than $1. I have 3700 followers and 850 children, but I was mainly earning from whatever views I could get on my posts and that would only be around 50-70 per post. That changed over Xmas when I gained some children who have been active and are getting lots of views. I hit a peak of $2 on Xmas day. That's from just a couple of children out of the hundreds. If even 10% were active I'd have a nice little income.

I got my first payout at the start of December, which took over a year to earn. It looks like the next one couple come in a couple of months. Tsu really does work, but there are still issues with retaining users.

I monitor Alexander where Tsunami has fallen from 4G to 9.9k and the largest user population now include India and Pakistan.

Tsu's revenue is based on views and click throughs adjusted for country of viewing.   Their algorithm doesn't state reward for likes and comments.  Instead multiple viewing of the same post may result in other ads being displayed or an increase in number of unique visitors per day.

If you monitor newly made accounts you will see the number of view bot nests reducing although they are still out there.  And recently I Made it onto a spammers block list - which makes me check all of their accounts harder for scams and copyright infringement.

The real issue is about being able to make a significant enough amount of money to make a difference.   I will continue to plug away.

My biggest fear is that at TSU will sell out.   Even now their biggest users are using a different platform to converse and earn..   and in theory Tsu could have provided that functionality directly.

No it doesn't work like that.  You get the same % split of the revenue earned.  So if the members viewing you page have ad blockers switched on, you earn nothing.

You earn a very small % sharing someone's post... do not ad much as sharing you original posts.

You will not be paid for spam posts, porn or Google images for which you don't own the copyright.

It is hard to accept sometimes you just have to start over on Tsu.   I also had an account banned. ...  never learned why.

Having started over, I have been more successful than I would have been on my first account.

I'm not sure what is going on.. my account with overy $69 was "banned"  - They say I used I bot.  I know I did not and apparently there is no recourse.  So Tomas, I'm really sorry that @Wateraid is not going to see that cash.

So, this is the second time a relatively successful account has been banned.  The first time I was banned for "spamming" because I let people know I sent a Friend request.

Personal and professional opinion - Tsu's a bit shaky to build a business upon - on average they are down about an hour every other day.  Given the arbitrary nature of deleting posts and comments (eg they only get removed if reported), some users who put "please follow me" messages get banned, others keep going.

Revenue: In terms of "royalites", I was averaging about 1,200 views per post and earning about $1.80 per day (I broke $2.30 one day when I did very little "sharing" of posts).

So my model was built on 1m followers (and yes, I believe you have to keep trying to attract new followers so that you have a hope of breaking 1,000 views per post).

TsuFanZine reacted to steevc in Google images don't get paid?
If an image explicitly says you can use it then of course it should be okay. It may require that you give credit to whoever made it. You can do Google image search to find images that allow re-use. It's all about the licence.

You can generally post an image by just posting the link and Tsu will pull in the image. There are cases where that does not work. I think you should try to ensure that people can get to the original so that they can see who originated it. The biggest problem, as I see it, is that people just upload some image they found as if it was theirs. That is dishonest. Artists and photographers deserve to at least get credit and would prefer to earn from their own images. To see other people earning from them cannot be nice.

As always, you should consult the Tsu terms and check with support if you are unclear on what is allowed. We can only go by what we have worked out and that may be wrong.

Who knows... but as @steevc says - we are just community of users, we definitely can't solve issues or unban accounts. All we can do is try to help by giving an advice.
